I have been a fan of the Lord of the Rings for quite some time.  I try to re-read the trilogy every few years.  My favourite of his books is the post humorous prequel The Silmarillion.  He was a gifted Old English (Anglo Saxon) linguist.  His translation of early English works such as Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are highly regarded.  

He was an inspiration to me.  I had a fascination for languages very early.  this was partially due to Tolkien's influence.  I even invented a few languages over the years.  Later, I served in the army as a Linguist.

Principle filming is complete for the three movies.  Peter Jackson and co. are busy at work filming the special effects and working on editing.  Each film will be released just before Christmas over the next few years.
